Biography
I live in Southend on Sea with my wife and two children and work throughout Essex as an artist and an art teacher. In the mid 1980s I trained at Southend Art College and Camberwell art school and gained a BA Hons in Fine Art - Painting.
Painting
I particularly enjoy contrasts of light, shape, colour and texture and I like to explore the pictorial possibilities within familiar everyday subjects, such as people absorbed in the ebb and flow of life and familiar objects and places or places that hold some other type of connection. I also enjoy exploring form and colour through landscapes and still lives and I look upon painting and drawing as a celebration of life.
Commissions
As well as producing a body of work of my own choosing I enjoy working to commission and have over the last year completed a three painting landscape commission for the newly build Brentwood Resource Centre at Highwood Hospital, Brentwood as well as several pavement drawings commissions.
Teaching
I teach a wide range of painting and drawing courses for Southend, Rochford and Basildon Adult community college's. I also teach Arts and Health courses for Open Arts - South Essex NHS University Partnership Trust and a range of childrens workshops for Rochford District Council. I also run occasional workshops and demonstrations for various art groups in Essex.
Exhibitions
I have exhibited locally for a number of years in various venues. Last year I exhibited with the Leigh art trail for the first time and I will be exhibiting again with the trail again this year.
